Manual Lymphatic Massage
Manual Lymphatic Massage has been reported to be used as early as the 1800’s. To move lymphatic fluid through lymphatic vessels to prevent stagnation in the tissue. More recent for people with lymphatic issues and fluid buildup. Whether from cancer treatment, surgery, autoimmune or fluid retention. Delivering a slow light rhythmic movement over the initial lymphatics underneath the skin.

Development of Indocyanine Green Fluorescent Imaging has demonstrated changes to the belief around fragility and directional flow of the lymphatic system.

Studies revealing differences to the durability/pathway and characteristic of the lymphatics when seen under this imaging method.

This demonstrates possible changes required when delivering a manual lymphatic massage treatment and performing certain surgeries. e.g. lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA). Massage clinicians will be able to change their pressures and techniques with these findings along with more accurate diagnosis of pathways and lymphatic damage before surgery is performed.
